Volunteers - we need you!

Did you know ADDR is run entirely by volunteers?
Volunteers operate every area of the rescue - from walking dogs at the kennels, providing foster homes for our dogs, fundraising (without which we could not continue our work), doing home checks, transporting dogs (to and from kennels/vets/foster homes) and carrying out assessment of dogs before they come into our care. Even our coordinators are all volunteers!
Why volunteer with us?
Over 4000 dogs are at risk of being put to sleep in UK pounds every year. The more volunteers we have, the more dogs we can help!
We are completely volunteer managed. You’ll be joining a friendly team of volunteers who are all passionate about finding forever homes for our dogs and promoting good dog welfare.
Every dog we re-home saves two lives - not just one! Every dog who finds a forever home will save another life by creating a space in the kennels.
How can you help?
Here are our current volunteering opportunities. Please complete the form at the bottom of the page to apply.
Fundraising Events Assistant - (home based and at community/event venues).
We currently rely entirely on donations and fundraising. As a Fundraising Events Assistant, you would be expected to suggest/source events in your area that ADDR would be able to fund raise at (such as fetes, galas, fairs, shows, events, open days, family fun days, etc) and be able to motivate the Fundraising volunteers so that there is adequate cover for any events that you secure. And you would be expected to provide cover for some of the events you source and organise (setting up, 'manning' the stall and setting down/packing away).
Fundraising Volunteers - (at community/event venues).
We currently rely entirely on donations and fundraising. As a Fundraising Volunteer, you would be expected to assist the Fundraising Events Assistants at events such as fetes, galas, fairs, shows, events, open days, family fun days, etc where they have secured a stall/table/gazebo for ADDR - this would involve setting up, 'manning' the stall and setting down/packing away.
Kennel team - (based at kennels in Midlothian).
***NOT CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR ANY MORE VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS ROLE***
Dogs in our kennels tend to be larger dogs, and many have behaviour issues such as dog reactiveness, guarding, pulling/ragging the lead etc. Their walks are not just to provide enrichment and exercise, but also much needed ongoing basic training. Confidence handling strong challenging dogs is essential and experience would be an advantage.
If you are looking for an easy walk with a smaller or already trained dog, please consider this type of a role for another rescue.
Foster - Most of our dogs need time in a foster home to get used to a home environment and be assessed before they are ready for their forever home. We are not breed specific and support dogs of all sizes and breeds. We provide support from a named coordinator to help you with your foster dog. We pay expenses such as vets, food, etc but dog walker/day care is not included. http://www.anydogildorescue.org/fostering.html
Transports/homechecks/assessments - We also need volunteers to carry out home checks for potential adopters and fosters, help us transport dogs (to homes, kennels, vet appointments etc) and to carry out dog assessments.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us. Due to the nature of the voluntary role, a reference may be requested. We aim to reply to your enquiry within 7-10 days.
