The Adoption Process
Please read the information below about our adoption process before submitting an adoption enquiry.
How our adoption process works:
- Look at our available dogs and consider if you'd be able to offer them a home that matches their needs.
- Profiles state if the dog can live with another dog, cats or children. We won't consider applications which don't meet these requirements, however we may suggest alternative dogs that better suit your circumstances.
- Disclaimer: We do not place our dogs home with any children under the age of 8 due to the dog's unknown history.
There may be exceptions dependent on history. We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience.
- Complete an adoption enquiry form and provide as much information as you can about your household, lifestyle and experience with dogs. Remember to include a valid telephone number and email address.
- If your enquiry is suitable for the dog, our rehoming co-ordinator will give you a call to further discuss your application.
- We will organise for you to meet the dog before asking you to commit to the adoption.
- Please note: our dogs may be in foster homes throughout Scotland or at our partner boarding kennels in Midlothian. To reduce stress on the dog, we will ask you to travel to meet the dog. If you already have a dog or children in the household, this would be an ideal time to bring them along to see how well everyone gets on.
- A homecheck will be arranged to ensure your home is suitable for one of our dogs.
- If we feel that the dog you are interested in might not be suitable, we may suggest another dog at this stage.
- Following the homecheck and meet & greet, we will contact you to ask if you still wish to proceed with the adoption.
- If you would like to adopt the dog, you will be required to pay the adoption donation (£250 per adult dog and £400 for puppies). To reserve a dog at this stage, we would ask for a minimum non refundable deposit of £50. The donation and deposit should be paid via bank transfer or by cash before or on the day of adoption.
- Once we have received a cleared donation payment, we will arrange for you to collect your dog at which point the adoption contract will be completed.
- If you don't drive, a volunteer may be able to transport the dog to you (for a small petrol charge).
- A follow up will be completed within 6 months of adoption wherever possible.
- All owners sign an adoption contract and if the dog ever had to be rehomed, it will be returned to our care.
Adoption Donation
Adoption donations are £250 per adult dog and £400 for puppies.
Adoption donations help us provide vet care and boarding for the dogs in our care as well as the following:
*With a few exceptions, all dogs will be neutered before rehoming. For dogs we cannot neuter beforehand, adoption contracts will include required neutering within an agreed period of time, paid for by ADDR. This will be followed up by the rescue.
We are a registered charity and all adoption donations are used to continue our work. Whilst not all dogs will need to be neutered, microchipped etc., some dogs may require more extensive health treatments which we ensure they get before being rehomed.
If you agree to the rehoming process and would like to progress with adoption please read about our available dogs.
